Radiological images confirmed Rüedi & Allgower type II fracture, subsequent osteosynthesis by posteromedial approach with adequate evolution and discharge.

Discusion: Pathology with a ratio of 1.4 to 1 (man/woman) with a higher incidence in men aged 35 to 45 years. The use of ankle CT is indicated to perform its classification (ÿ =0.560; P <0.01). Opting for conservative management with external fixation and/or ORIF with postoperative care.

Conclusion: Fracture that affects men from 35 to 45 years old, requiring more studies in the female sex due to persistence of cases.
2024-06-30T00:00:00-05:00Copyright (c) 2025 Sebastián Briceño Arias, Diego Alejandro Morales, Cristhian Alberto Rojas Herrerahttps://revistas.juanncorpas.edu.co/index.php/cuarzo/article/view/263Idiopathic spontaneous pneumoperitoneum: case description and emergency department management2025-07-21T10:26:48-05:00Juan Camilo Cardona Aguirrejuanca.cardona@urosario.edu.coP Vélezjuanca.cardona@urosario.edu.coJ Ordoñezjuanca.cardona@urosario.edu.co
Spontaneous pneumoperitoneum is the presence of free air in abdominal cavity, usually related with hollow organ injury. It is considered idiopathic if there are no causes identified. We present a woman’s case, with no important comorbidities, who went to the Emergency Department for abdominal pain with inespecific caractheristics, with main finding of pneumoperitoneum after studies. Through radiologic Evaluation we ruled out intestinal structural compromiso and managed her case in a conservative manner with success.
2024-06-30T00:00:00-05:00Copyright (c) 2019 Juan Camilo Cardona Aguirrehttps://revistas.juanncorpas.edu.co/index.php/cuarzo/article/view/699Description of Coronary angiograms in Patients over 65 in a hemodynamic unit in Colombia.2025-07-21T10:26:44-05:00Carlos Eduardo García Moróncarlose-garcia@juanncorpas.edu.co
Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the world. The main triggering factor for coronary ischemic events is atherosclerotic involvement, knowing the prevalence and degrees of stenosis in the different coronary arteries is important due to the impact of this pathology in morbidity and mortality.

Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out, for which reports were taken of patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and coronary angiography in a hemodynamics unit during the years 2017 to 2018, describing the characteristics of the patients, their pathological history and main angiographic findings.

Results: A total of 254 reports of coronary angiography were evaluated, 53.15% of participants were women, the presence of angiographic compromise was present in 72.44% of the study population, the most compromised coronary artery was the anterior descending artery in 62.99%, followed by the right coronary artery 51.18%, circumflex artery 47.24% and finally the left coronary artery 9.45 %.

Conclusions: The artery described with the greatest significant stenosis was the anterior descending one, most of the compromised vessels presented severe stenosis, the mild involvement was in greater proportion in the right coronary artery and moderate stenosis had the same frequency in the right and circumflex coronary artery, the classically defined antecedent arterial hypertension was the most prevalent.
2024-06-30T00:00:00-05:00Copyright (c) 2025 Carlos Eduardo García Morónhttps://revistas.juanncorpas.edu.co/index.php/cuarzo/article/view/664COVID-19, beyond the disease?2025-07-21T10:26:46-05:00Yuri Valeria Alzate Cuevasst.yuri.alzate@unimilitar.edu.coAndrea del Pilar Álvarez-Sánchez1laura.bejarano@unimilitar.edu.coLaura Alejandra Bejarano Avendanoest.laura.bejarano@unimilitar.edu.coIván Alberto Méndez Rodríguez3laura.bejarano@unimilitar.edu.co
Background: Since the first case reported of COVID-19, disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2, has been characterized by a variable clinic presentation whose main manifestations are the respiratory ones, it created an impact not just in public health, but also in the different fields of modern science, representing a challenge for research. For this reason, the present review tries to synthesize the relevant information about the etiology, physiopathology, clinic presentation, diagnostic and treatment of this novel disease; taking into account the dynamic process of information which is updated in some aspects periodically.
2024-06-30T00:00:00-05:00Copyright (c) 2025 Yuri Valeria Alzate Cuevas, Andrea del Pilar Álvarez-Sánchez1, Laura Alejandra Bejarano Avendano, Iván Alberto Méndez Rodríguez3https://revistas.juanncorpas.edu.co/index.php/cuarzo/article/view/640Efficacy of renal sympathetic denervation as the last therapeutic echelon in refractory hypertension, literature review2025-07-21T10:26:47-05:00LUIS ANDRES DULCEY SARMIENTOluismedintcol@gmail.comJhon Fredy Castillo Blancoluismedintcol@gmail.comJuan Sebastian Theran Leonluismedintcol@gmail.comRaimondo Caltagirone Miceliluismedintcol@gmail.com
Background: Hypertension carries an extremely high burden of morbidity and mortality due to its deleterious effects, despite such a broad therapeutic arsenal in some patients it is refractory. Previous estimates have placed the global burden of disease in adults at between 30 and 32%, with the East Asia and Pacific region having the highest absolute burden with just over 439 million affected. In addition to the health repercussions, hypertension also carries significant economic costs.

Methodology: Extensive review of the literature on updates in the area corresponding to the management of refractory arterial hypertension and the usefulness of renal denervation therapy.

Conclusions: Despite well-established pharmacological treatment, hypertension continues to be a major contributor to deaths from noncommunicable diseases. Given the well-known association of hypertension with adverse cardiovascular disease, the importance of blood pressure control has never been more crucial. Traditionally, pharmacological management has been the mainstay of care, however, with an increasing burden of disease, alternative and innovative approaches are now being considered. Minimally invasive catheter-based ablation systems, targeting the renal sympathetic nerves, have been proposed as a more permanent way to control blood pressure.
2024-06-30T00:00:00-05:00Copyright (c) 2025 LUIS ANDRES DULCEY SARMIENTO, Jhon Fredy Castillo Blanco, Juan Sebastian Theran Leon, Raimondo Caltagirone Miceli
